If you love music, theatre, dance, film, and the arts, then spend the night out at the Baton Rouge Jewish Film Festival! The Baton Rouge Jewish Film Festival is an annual film festival held in association with the Jewish Federation of Greater Baton Rouge. The 13th Annual Baton Rouge Jewish Film Festival will be held from January 15th to January 19th, 2020. To kick things off, visitors are invited to view The Museum on Wednesday, January 15th at 7:00 p.m.
The Museum is a film that observes, examines, and ponders Israel's most important cultural institution: the Israel Museum. The film follows the visitors, observes the observers, listens to the speakers, and descends to the storerooms, labs and conference rooms. The American museum director, the singing security guard, the Jerusalemite curator, the Haredi kashrut inspector, the Palestinian guide, and the visitor who lost her vision are some of the characters that take part in a chain of activities which add up to the museum.
For about 18 months director Ran Tal collected footage of the daily routine of the museum that seeks both to reflect and mold the Israeli legacy and culture. The film is expected to run for approximately 74 minutes and is not rated. The Museum is in Hebrew with English subtitles. Following the movie, Kenneth Hoffman, Executive Director of the Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience in New Orleans, will give a talk to attendees.
The Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience explores the many ways that Jews in the American South influenced and were influenced by the distinct cultural heritage of their new homes. Through exhibits, collections, and programs focused on the unique and remarkable history of Southern Jews, the Museum encourages new understanding and appreciation for identity, diversity, and acceptance.
Tickets to see The Museum at Manship Theatre are $8.50 plus fees and are available for purchase online. All patrons, regardless of age, must have a ticket to attend performances. For more information about the festival and to purchase event tickets, visit www.brjff.com.
